The inspiration for my stitched vessels series comes from my deep fascination with archaeological artifacts and the intricate process of restoring them. Imagine the thrill an archaeologist must feel when holding ancient shards of clay, carefully piecing them together after they’ve lain untouched for millennia. Although I don't have a career in archaeology nor access to restoration labs, I was eager to experience the process of reassembling a vessel that once stood whole. Over the years, I’ve developed my own method for dismantling and reassembling vessels, using wire instead of traditional restoration compounds. The painstaking nature of this work is more than rewarded by the excitement of seeing the pot gradually return to its original form.
